Deanna Poppenger

Deanna Poppenger
Deanna was a Canton-based artist working out of the PASC Westland studio. Her artwork is defined by layers of graffiti-like repeated mark-making. Her earliest artworks featured shapes such as circles and sometimes squares layered on top of each other. But as her practice grew, she began incorporating a more complex visual vocabulary of letters and full words, sometimes her name, the word mom, the names of others in her life, and seemingly random letters and numbers. Her pieces were created by layering acrylic or ink over vivid watercolor washes. The artist passed away in 2025, leaving behind a lasting legacy.

Her artwork has been exhibited at the annual exhibit at Art Gallery at Westland City Hall, Westland, MI (2024/2023/2025); MOCAD, Detroit, MI (2023-2024); Madison Heights Civic Center, Madison Heights, MI (2023); PASC Detroit Pop Up Gallery, At The Vella Group, Detroit, MI (2022). Her artworks have been featured at the art fairs Open Invitational, Miami, FL (2024), and NADA presented by White Columns Gallery, Miami, FL (2024).
