Ray Smith

Ray is an artist who works at the PASC Detroit Studio. Ray has one subject matter, buses. He is particularly interested in the social role buses play within communities, ranging from church buses, to school buses, to intercity buses, to party busses. He draws them in an exacting style, with the wheels always in motion, from his memory or sometimes using historical images. His buses are rendered in colored pencil, most often with the standard orange or yellow and black painted exterior of traditional school buses, but sometimes Ray adds multicolored decorations to the windows or exteriors, giving them fantastical rainbow ornamentations.
