John Peterson, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, 2024, mixed media on paper, 30.5 x 22.5 in

Derek is an artist who works at the PASC Westland Studio. Derek works mainly in acrylic. He is drawn to expressionist realist artists like Van Gogh, although his subjects can range from landscapes to geometric patterns. His realist pieces are usually simplified or abstracted down to broken stripes and rectangles. Recently, he has been focusing on flower paintings, which have been some of the most engaging subject matter for him.

His work has been shown at PASC Southgate Gallery, Southgate, MI (2024/25); BasBlue, Detroit, MI (2024); the annual exhibit in the Art Gallery at Westland City Hall, Westland, MI (2023/25); Swords into Plowshares Peace Center and Gallery, Detroit, MI (2022/25).

During the run of the exhibition artworks are available for viewing and purchase through The Gallery at Cherry Hill.
