7th Annual Creating Communities Conference: The Expanding Landscape of Art and Disabilities

We are pleased to announce that PASC is hosting this years 7th Annual Creating Communities Conference (CCC7), titled The Expanding Landscape of Art and Disabilities, scheduled for October 5–8, 2026, in Detroit and Ann Arbor, Michigan.

This conference is being organized by PASC, with local support from the University of Michigan Institute for the Humanities and Library Street Collective. It is being presented with national coordination and strategic collaboration from Creative Growth and the Progressive Art Studio Alliance (PASA)

Since its launch in Oakland, California, in 2019 as an initiative of Creative Growth, the Creating Communities Conference has brought together artists and professionals from progressive art studios, alongside scholars and practitioners in disability arts, advocacy, and theory. The conference serves as a platform to share best practices, strengthen networks, and engage critically with the evolving landscape of art and disability.

CCC7 invites and welcomes both internal participants (studio artists and staff) and external audiences to engage with the practices and ideas shaping progressive art studios today. The program (forthcoming) will include panels, workshops, and discussions addressing a wide range of topics, including studio practice, exhibition-making, collecting and representation, self-taught art, disability studies, mental health, and radical pedagogy. Together, these conversations aim to expand the visibility of artists with disabilities and to examine the transformative role of inclusive creative spaces within the broader art world.
