Rodney Stephens

Rodney is a Detroit-based artist who works out of the PASC Detroit studio. He is a master with color sticks and colored pencils, while experimenting with other mediums to push himself out of his comfort zone. Rodney explores identity in his artworks, rendering fantastical depictions of himself in portraiture.  Rodney's artworks are highly imaginative, often creating characters that are a mash-up of various cartoon, puppet, and mascot characters. He creates narrative drawings and paintings that often reference movie posters or the information maps in museum guides. He pulls from both his personal history as well as his knowledge of pop culture to create humorous artworks that play with vulnerability, desire, voyeurism, irreverence, and horror. Rodney has exhibited at the PASC Detroit Gallery, Detroit, MI (2024/25); Padzieski Gallery, Dearborn, MI (2023); and MOCAD, Detroit, MI (2023).
